Comparing Leading Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies
Dr. Edward Young, Charm Industrial
Abstract: The most recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report shows that we will need several gigatons of carbon dioxide removal annually to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. A nascent but rapidly growing private sector is attempting to meet that demand. These companies are deploying a myriad of technologies that capture and store carbon in unique pathways, with their own benefits and tradeoffs. I will discuss these tradeoffs, with an eye to scaling from todays tens of kilotons of removals to the needed gigaton scale.
About Dr. Edward Young
Edward Young is the Head of Research at Charm Industrial, a startup working on carbon dioxide removal. Charm converts agricultural and forestry residues to bio-oil, which it then sequesters in legacy oil wells. Before starting at Charm, Edward was a KIPAC Fellow, working on developing and deploying the microwave readout multiplexer.
